Questions to ask before arranging care

4 min read · Last reviewed

Once an inquiry is accepted and you are talking directly, a good conversation tells you far more than a profile can. These are general prompts to help you get started — adapt them to your situation, and add your own.

About experience and approach

  • What kind of support do you most often provide, and for how long have you done this work?
  • How would you describe your approach to working with families?
  • Can you share references I can contact?

About availability and coverage

  • Which towns or areas do you cover?
  • What days and times are you generally available, and how far ahead do you plan?
  • For an agency: how do you handle continuity if the usual person is unavailable?

About expectations and terms

Rates, scheduling, and terms are set directly between you and the provider. Care Mason is not part of that arrangement, so it is worth being clear early.

  • How do you usually structure availability and rates? (These are self-reported and meant to be discussed.)
  • How do you prefer to communicate day to day?
  • What would a first meeting or trial period look like?

A note on health details

Share only what you are comfortable sharing, and avoid putting unnecessary medical details into messages — they are private but not monitored for emergencies and not end-to-end encrypted. Care Mason does not give medical or clinical advice; questions about health and care needs are best discussed with the appropriate professionals directly.
